In efforts to monitor the crime rate, events and general incidents in the eThekwini Municipality, the Disaster Management and Emergency Unit has acquired a mobile CCTV that will complement the existing system by monitoring all areas that are not covered by existing CCTV.
The Head of Disaster Management and Emergency Unit, Vincent Ngubane said eThekwini is the first municipality to own the mobile CCTV. “In the event where fiber cables are stolen, the mobile CCTV will come in very handy. It has assisted us a lot during the festive season, particularly during the Patrice Motsepe Foundation event at the beach, where we were able to cover 180 degrees,” said Ngubane. “The CCTV will also assist the Unit in monitoring traffic and faulty traffic lights working hand in hand with Metro Police.
This is an important system for the Municipality to have, it can also function with both electricity and generator,” Ngubane added. “The camera that it uses is high speed dome with 360 degree rotation and travelling at about 30 degrees per second. The Technician keeps the Metro Police and SAPS updated of what is happening as it has full Metro Police and SAPS communication,” concludes Eugene Brussow Senior Project Technician.
